YOUR TRUSTED CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRIST

"GOLDEN RULE" TREATMENT

Mental health and psychiatry can be scary topics! I strive to create a welcoming environment in which you can feel comfortable to be yourself, ask questions, and tell me how you really feel. I try to treat my patients the way I would want a psychiatrist to treat me or my family members. Although I can't do everything, I pledge that I'll treat your child or adolescent to the best of my ability and keep you involved in every treatment decision.

PLEASE NOTE: I only see child and adolescent patients; I don't see adult patients. Also, I only see patients through the Kaiser Permanente health system, at:

INITIAL EVALUATION

Getting to know you

Each 60-minute initial appointment consists of four sections:

  1. Current concerns - what questions do you want me to answer today?

  2. Diagnostic screening - what mental health conditions apply under the latest diagnostic criteria?

  3. Background information - what family history, childhood history, etc., should I know about?

  4. Assessment and recommendations - what diagnoses and treatment recommendations apply?

Before prescribing any medication, I will always ensure you understand my recommendations and the logic behind them. I recognize that all medications have side effects and I will discuss these to your satisfaction. I am also open to not starting medications at the initial evaluation.

FOLLOW UP MONITORING

Ongoing and shared management

Each 30-minute follow-up appointment reviews the previous visit, significant changes since then, any new concerns, and further medication management. As always, before making any medication changes, I will always ensure you understand my recommendations, the logic behind them, and any applicable side effects.
